Why filter your aquarium water
All fish produce a range of waste products that, if they accumulate in the aquarium, will lead to a decline in water quality and fish health. Whilst stringent feeding practices and regular water changes may help, most aquarists will rely upon some form of filter to remove and break down these potentially toxic waste products. Replacing your filter media regularly will ensure your water and fish stay healthy.
There are many different types of filters to keep your aquarium clean and healthy. The Copnor Tropicals product range takes into account that every aquatic tank set up is different and depending on the size, the fish stock levels or simply for aesthetical reasons different people prefer different types of filters
Copnor Tropicals supply three different aquarium filter products
- Wool Filter Pads – remove fine particles
- Sponges – to remove larger particles
- Carbon Cartridges – to remove toxins
Wool Filter Pads are designed to remove the fine particles from your aquarium. Made of high-grade synthetic wool, the water that passes through the pad will be cleaned of most micro-particles. Wool Filter Pads should be removed and replaced as soon as they show any signs of significant dirt or biological waste that causes the pad to block or lose shape. The more frequently you replace the Wool Filter Pads the more likely you are to enjoy a crystal clear aquarium.
Our Sponges are designed to remove the larger particles from your aquarium. The sponge is made of high-grade open-pored foam, so the water that passes through the Sponge will be cleaned of most larger particles. Sponges will last longer than Wool Filter Pads, but should be replaced as soon as they lose shape. Failure to replace the Sponge will lead to particles avoiding the filtering process. When the accumulation of dirt or biological waste causes the sponge to block, rinse the sponge in a bucket of water taken from your aquarium to maintain the biological health of the Sponge and filter.
Finally, our Carbon Cartridges are designed for the removal of harmful toxins, such as ammonia, from your aquarium. Carbon Cartridges cannot be washed and re-used and should therefore be replaced every 6-8 weeks to ensure the continued health of your fish and aquarium.
